چکیده

Most members of the genus Calaxias are small to mediumsized, fast-swimming, mid-water fishes that can be either lacustrine or diadromous (Whitley 1935). However, one species, Calaxias cleaveri Scott 1934, differs so markedly from typical Tasmanian members of the genus that at one stage it was referred to tpe genus Saxilaga by Scott (1936). Meristic and morphometric comparison of the mainland Tasmanian, Flinders Island and Victorian populations indicate that the three are conspecific. The principal non-taxonomic differences between C. cleaveri and other Calaxias are ecological and behavioural and the results of studies on these aspects of the species are reported here.

Contrasting Genetic Structure and Diversity of Galaxias maculatus (Jenyns, 1848) Along the Chilean Coast: Stock Identification for Fishery Management.

Galaxias maculatus (Pisces: Galaxiidae) commonly known as "puye" has a disjunct distribution along the Southern Hemisphere including landlocked and migratory populations at latitudes over 30°S in South America, Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. Chilean artisanal fishery of G. maculatus has become less important as a resource due to multiple factors including overexploitation, pollution, int...

Across the southern Andes on fin: glacial refugia, drainage reversals and a secondary contact zone revealed by the phylogeographical signal of Galaxias platei in Patagonia.

We employed DNA sequence variation at two mitochondrial (control region, COI) regions from 212 individuals of Galaxias platei (Pisces, Galaxiidae) collected throughout Patagonia (25 lakes/rivers) to examine how Andean orogeny and the climatic cycles throughout the Quaternary affected the genetic diversity and phylogeography of this species. Phylogenetic analyses revealed four deep genealogical ...

Implementing Xquery 1.0: The Galax Experience

Galax is a light-weight, portable, open-source implementation of XQuery 1.0. Started in December 2000 as a small prototype designed to test the XQuery static type system, Galax has now become a solid implementation, aiming at full conformance with the family of XQuery 1.0 specifications. Because of its completeness and open architecture, Galax also turns out to be a very convenient platform for...

Phylogeography in Galaxias maculatus (Jenyns, 1848) along Two Biogeographical Provinces in the Chilean Coast

Major geologic and climatic changes during the Quaternary exerted a major role in shaping past and contemporary distribution of genetic diversity and structure of aquatic organisms in southern South America. In fact, the northern glacial limit along the Pacific coast, an area of major environmental changes in terms of topography, currents, and water salinity, represents a major biogeographic tr...
